Baltimore Sandwiches: Cheesesteaks

Though our Phriends up 95 are known around the country as the ones who “perfected” the cheesesteak Baltimore is hardly short on options to enjoy one of America’s greatest sandwich creations.  As opposed to many of the places in Philadelphia, Baltimore restaurants haven’t adopted one consistent style of cheesesteak as differences are seen in bread, [...]

A Return to the Fair

As children we all grew up going to the Maryland State Fair every year.  We enjoyed all of the rickety old rides because at the time we were too carefree to realize how much of a deathtrap some of them really are.  We liked the funnel cakes and the cotton candy.  Maybe in middle school [...]

Cot of the Week: Tom Kiefaber

Though no longer the owner of The Senator movie theater in Govans, Tom Kiefaber is reluctant, if not unwilling, to let his baby go.  At a meeting downtown on Wednesday final approval was given to Buzz Cusack to take control of the theater and make several changes over the coming months that should benefit many [...]

It’s a Beggar! It’s a Bum! It’s a Little League Baseball Coach?

Watching SportsCenter one morning the Little League World Series bracket flashed up on the screen and to my dismay there was not a team from Baltimore listed.  How can this be?  I am pretty sure one of the best funded little leagues teams in the country plays right here in Baltimore.  I have never actually [...]

To The Honi!

Every summer hundreds of thousands of Baltimoreans make the three hour trek east across the Bay Bridge to Ocean City.  However, the three hour trek west of Baltimore can provide just as much summer fun.  Deep Creek Lake, MD is a splendid summer getaway for those looking for something different than the crowded boardwalk.  I [...]

Is Baltimore’s Culinary Scene Worthy of a Restaurant Week?

This past Sunday several members of the Bohs and O’s staff were part of a group who enjoyed a tremendous meal at Baltimore institution The Prime Rib.  Not a place we would normally dine on rather limited budgets, we thought with the Restaurant Week menu available and it being half-priced wine night we would treat [...]

What’s Next for the Power Plant?

What will become of the ESPNZone?  As much as this blog bashes ESPN and their 24/7 coverage of everything Boston, the ESPNZone was good fit for the Inner Harbor and we were sad to see it go.  It attracted throngs of tourists and being the first ESPNZone in the country it was somewhat iconic for Baltimore.  [...]

Grand Prix Race Day Moved, Whining Continues

The Baltimore Grand Prix has been moved to Labor Day Weekend 2011.  Race organizers are praising the change citing that it will make travel easier increasing attendance.  Personally, I am not too happy about the change as I would like to spend the long weekend at the beach or anywhere not in hot, August Baltimore.  [...]

O’s Sign Machado

It came down to the wire, but the O’s have signed first round pick, and third overall selection, Manny Machado.  The high school shortstop won’t have much time in the system this year, but will likely play fallball and start at low A-ball next spring. Also, for those looking forward to next year’s draft it [...]

Game Day

Today is a great day for Baltimore sports.  Fans are basking in the Orioles recent success, as the team just sealed their third consecutive series win, and the Ravens have their first preseason game tonight. In a welcomed moment of irony, this is the first time all baseball season where we as fans haven’t been [...]
