Au Revoir Dave

After today’s loss the O’s are coming home after an 0-6 road trip in which we were outscored 34 – 8.  At this point nothing the O’s do (or don’t do) could shock me, but I’d be very surprised if Dave Trembley was managing tomorrow night against the Red Sox.  He made is past my Memorial Day prediction, only to not win a game after the holiday and have his players meander around the field with a lethargic attitude usually only seen after Sidney Ponson leaves an all you can eat brunch.

I still love this team too much to pile on them with a second Cot of the Week award tomorrow so I’ll just pass along some notes on the progress of the season:

  • The O’s are 15 games behind 4th place; the next worst team in the majors, the Astros, are 11.5 games out of 1st place.  Sure you can chalk some of that up to the division we play in, but christ it’s the first week of June!
  • The O’s winning percentage is .278, which over a full season projects to a record of 45-117
  • Our Opening Day 1B is projected to finish the year with 4 HR and 31 RBI, but he probably won’t even get that many as he’s basically been benched for his ineptitude.
  • Aside from Nick Markakis, who’s hitting exactly .300, the only .300+ hitter on the active roster is Brad Bergesen, who has one hit in three at bats.
  • The Orioles have won 15 games this season…Ubaldo Jimenez has won 10.
  • All of our starting pitchers combined have 9 wins…Ubaldo Jimenez has 10 wins.
  • Our most highly touted off-season acquisition, Kevin Millwood, is 0-6 (although not necessarily due to bad pitching)
  • As a team the O’s are last in the AL in runs scored, walks, and stolen base percentage
  • Our bullpen has blown more saves (10) than it has actually converted saves (9)
  • Our pitchers are first in the AL in home runs allowed.
  • The only O’s pitcher with a winning record this season is Alberto Castillo…he’s 1-0.  He also has an ERA of 11.74
  • The free agent closer we signed has only pitched in 3 games and is sitting on the DL with an ERA of 18.00
  • The Yankees have 7 players hitting over .300; the O’s only have 4 players hitting over .250
  • We don’t have a single player with more walks than strikeouts.  Brian Roberts is even with 2 each.  Adam Jones has only walked 5 times the entire season to 47 K’s.
  • From today until July 29 we play one team with a losing record, the Nationals, who are only 2 games under .500

It’s bad when you can’t say anything positive. And I don’t mean you guys… I mean ANYONE.

There is literally nothing positive to say about this team.

The closest anyone can come is to mention Markakis and Milwood, who are positive in as much as they’re not ENTIRELY negative.

These guys are literally hard to watch.
